Ciao!

This past weekend, September 7th-10th, I traveled around the Amalfi coast. I stayed in Sorrento, which is a coastal town in the Naples region, at Cavour Hotel (not the best, to say the least lol) We died laughing when we realized we had to shower in a bathtub while holding the shower head and no curtain! LOL! We started our trip in Capri, which was by far my most favorite place we visited and my #1 favorite place in Italy so far. We took a 30 minute ferry to the island and docked at the main port on Capri. Next we took a trolley to the top of the mountain where I had the BEST lemon/orange granita of my life!! Definitely worth the 5 euro! We hiked about 20 minutes downhill to reach the beach. The beach was tiny but the water was to die for. We swam in crystal blue water and enjoyed fresh, homemade pasta for lunch. Once it was time to leave, we took a convertible limo to the other side of the mountain which was crazy since the drivers here are insane, but the views were amazing!! The best part of the Capri trip was by far the boat tour. The boat took us around the entire island where we saw the Dolce & Gabbana rocks (I died) and got to jump off the boat and swim!! It felt like I was dreaming honestly.

Day 2 was Positano. Long awaited Positano and it's colorful mountain filled with houses. I had this place as the background of my laptop for months and when I finally got to see it for myself, I couldn't believe I was actually there. We took a 30 minute bus ride from the hotel to Positano. We drove alongside a cliff which was the scariest thing I have ever done. Every turn was like the mousetrap ride I swear. Once we arrived walked downhill, through the colorful houses (my legs were violently shaking) and got to the beach. We rented a beach chair/umbrella which was so useful since we didn't have towels! The beach was covered in pebbles which hurt the feet but the views took all the pain away. Having the infamous colorful mountain behind us was surreal. The water was just as warm as Capri but not as blue. The dark sand/stones made it almost black looking. For lunch, I got a slice of margarita pizza (which I am terribly sick of by now) and another LEMON GRANITA! So delish! We spent the entire day on the beach and the Italian sun is great for tanning (no burning:) ).

Day 3 was Pompeii. I can officially say I hiked a volcano. Such a crazy experience. I didn't think I could do it since I am in terrible shape but all the walking I have been doing in Florence prepared me for this lol. We drove 40 minutes from the hotel to Mt. Vesuvius (which was the giant mountain in the distance of most of our entire trip, and we finally were at the base of it). Our bus took us to the top so we got to climb about 20 minutes to the top (still rough). It was extremely steep but the views were insane!!! We were at heights airplanes fly at! I saw all of Naples and the island of Capri in the distance! Once we reached the top, I was expected a black fiery hole with lava boiling at the bottom, but it was just a canyon looking ditch with trees at the bottom (very anticlimactic). Can definitely check that off my bucket list though! We hiked back down the volcano and headed to Pompeii (the city destroyed but the thing we just climbed). Paid 13 euro and decided to be our own tour guides (bad idea). It took us two hours to find the plaster cast of the dead bodies! The town itself was so cool and was definitely worth seeing. We saw Vesuvius in the distance as we walked through the huge city that was destroyed by it. There were kitchens, brothels, and theaters. It was crazy how much stayed intact. The bodies were the craziest thing I ever saw because the bones were in the same position they were when they died! After Pompeii, I got ANOTHER lemon/orange granita, which was amazingggg. Then we headed back to Florence on a 8 hour bus ride!

Overall, traveling to the Amalfi Coast was such an amazing experience. I would do it 100 times over! The views, food, and shopping are incredible and the Jersey Shore will never feel the same! LOL!

Next stop: Croatia!!!!

Ciao,

Cierra
